New Home Build

Update on our New House

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted for awhile.  You may have also figured out by now why I haven’t posted for over a week, or so.

Our website got a HUGE makeover.  It took them about a week to get everything transferred over.  And I couldn’t be happier.  While you are here, take a look around.  I love the look of it. And, it is so easy to navigate, as well.  The colors and the details around the photos are so pretty!  My website girl did a pretty darn good job.

Anyway… if you aren’t on social media, you would have no clue about all of the updates on our new house.  And I’m going to share!  Because it’s amazing how far they have come!

Update on our New House

I knew the crew was moving quickly on our new house.  But, I had to look back at the photos on my phone to verify that I wasn’t confused.  I am not counting the floor joist days when they were working on the basement.  So, the very first wall went up on May 5.  Today is May 17.  They didn’t show up one day because they had an emergency at another house they were working on.  And, of course, they don’t work weekends.

Progress….

If you missed what our house will look like on the outside, I shared that a few months back.  And, I also shared the layout here. The more the crews get done, the more I LOVE the layout.  We specifically told our architect that we wanted our house to have an old feel.  Neither of us are fond of open concepts, so that was the first thing.  More requests were that we want large openings for the doorways, large spacious rooms, a HUGE front porch, and a couple of fireplaces.  She really exceeded our expectations.

When you walk through our home, it already has that old feel to it.  We don’t have huge walk-in clothes closets!  We have regular closets that we are going to find antique doors to hang.  There are two pantries (see doors here) and four fireplaces.  All of which will be antique fireplace mantels that we picked up here and there.  Did you see these?  Those were two that we picked up that I stripped a few weeks back.  I will be sharing another one shortly that we picked up off of the Facebook marketplace last week.  So stay tuned for that.

I am so excited for the next phase which is roofing, siding, windows and doors.  Then comes the fun part!  And, the slower part, from what I hear.  Everything will slow down on the finishing!  If you are on social media, I have been sharing updates daily.  So make sure you tune in.  Otherwise, I always share here, as well.

  • The house looks WONDERFUL! You must be SO excited! I totally agree that I would NEVER work up on a roof. Terrified of heights.
You should share the name of your contractors for local followers. They seem to be doing an outstanding job!

    • Thank you! We are thrilled with the progress and very eager to get in there. Barkley Builders, Inc is who is building our home. We try and tag them on every FB post if you're interested in finding them. :)

  • Wow! This is happening so fast! Absolutely Beautiful so far! I can't wait to see what you guys do with this.... you two are so inspiring!

  • Loving it already! Wow, they really are fast! I can't wait to see the floors when you put them in - break out the hammers and chains!

  • Yes the outside can get done quite quickly if you have good weather...that's a major key besides the work crew. Weather does not become a real factor once inside. This will be an amazing home! And then y'all's creative touch will bring it to a whole new fabulous level! (I agree with you on open concept dislike...Ha!)
