New Home Build

Update on the Construction of the New House – The Basement

Oh my gosh.  Lots and lots of exciting things have been happening.  We have been so busy… from making a flying trip to Tennessee to grab two fireplace mantels for our new house to starting the basement. (More about the fireplace mantels soon)  If you missed the floor plan, I shared it several months ago.  I also talked about what the outside of the house will look like, too.  I told you that I would be sharing all of the updates over here as well as social media. Because I find it all fascinating.   Several people have told me that they love seeing it as well for the same reason.  Plus… I will be able to look back here on our website and see this project from the very beginning.

Update on the Construction of the New House

The last you heard, the crews dug the basement.   The basement is only going to be under half of the house and the rest will be a large crawl space.  We only wanted the basement for the mechanical room:  furnace, water heater, water softener, etc.  And, we wanted a storage section, an exercise room, and a small space for the grandkids to play and hang out when they get older.  It was kind of a waste of money for us to do an entire basement since we won’t be finishing it.

After the basement was dug, the walls were formed and then concrete was poured between those two sections.  See below.  I always wondered how that was done.

A few days later, the forms were removed and the crawl space walls went up and concrete was poured for that.  Deb talked to the guys and they said they want the concrete work all done this week so they can start framing.  I’m pretty sure that should be happening soon!  Stay tuned to social media stories where I share progress every single day.  I always get you caught up over here as well!

  • So happy for you and can’t believe framing is going to start‼️????????‼️ Has Ivy tried to walk the plank? I know Deb has‼️???????? (I totally would have done the same????????????) Looking forward to your next step????

    • I know!! It is crazy. Ivy has not tried yet... lets hope it stays that way!! I can't keep feeling my heart in my butt anymore ????

  • So excited for you both!!! It’s so much fun to build and see your dream come to life. I sent you a Instagram DM about a place here(Flea Market to Fabulous) in Springfield, Illinois. They have old furniture and wanted you to check to see if they had doors.

  • I’m shocked how fast it’s all going up compared to other house builds I’ve seen. Yay!
