Camper Renovation: The Living Area

Camper RenovationCamper Renovation

Have you been watching stories over on Instagram?  We are JUST ABOUT DONE with this camper renovation.  I have already shared nearly every detail with you as far as “areas” of the camper are concerned.  If you missed all of the before photos, I shared them all in one spot when I announced we bought a camper.  That was the very first post.  I have a few more projects that I want to do and show you, but the living area is the last actual space reveal.  And, then I will do one big story tour over on Instagram as a grand finale.  Looking back on it, we have done A LOT of work on this baby. We are so happy with our our camper living room remodel turned out!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I knew I wanted to stick with the woods and whites theme that I love so much.  I chose wallpaper that looked like wood for the backsplash in the kitchen and used the same wallpaper as an accent wall in the bedroom.  And, I chose a woodland theme wallpaper for the dining room and an accent wall in the bathroom.  Deb fancied up the trim around the two doors by doing a really easy technique that took her very little time.  She didn’t bother with the windows because we knew we were adding curtains and they wouldn’t be seen anyway.

We removed the typical dinette set in the slide out and replaced it with a floating shelf type table.  Which was THE SIMPLEST project ever.  One of the things that made THE BIGGEST difference was removing some of the upper cabinets.  And, of course, painting the remainder ones white.  We removed a few in the bedroom, one in the kitchen, and all of them in the living area…  which happens to be the area that I am revealing today.

The Living Area of the Camper

Like I said above, we removed all of the upper cabinets to give this living area way more space.  I will be sharing soon where Deb created more storage space for us here in the camper, so stay tuned for that.  From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to get a couch from Ikea for this living area.  They are tough, inexpensive, and have slip covers for easy washing.  So we planned around that.

This living area already had typical camper lights that were mounted underneath the wall cabinets.  So, we knew we wanted to add something different.  We already had these little sconces in our stash that we never used in a previous project.  So we thought they would be perfect here.  This wall behind the couch is slanted… so Deb had to come up with something to make them hang level.  Using old boards, she made a wooden box at the same angle as the wall to remedy that.

This window behind the couch is such an eyesore.  It has a cover on it and we never open it.  So we decided to hang our canvas sign over it by attaching it directly to the wall with a few screws.

Faux Wooden Beam

From the very beginning, I wanted this camper to look like a little house, rather than a camper.  When we removed the upper cabinets above the couch, we were left with two random plugs.  Deb ran the wires for those plugs down the wall.  Which are now hidden under the curtains.  But, it still left wires running along the top of this wall… from those plugs and the sconces.

She created this faux wooden beam out of random boards to hide all of them.   She painted them using our paint technique that we use on new boards to make them look old.  And then added a little applique to add a little more interest.  I LOVE how it turned out.  Deb gets five stars for that project.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We removed the little side tables beside the couch and thought about adding some type of a shelf to hold our drinks, etc.  But we decided that the bar stools work perfectly to hold our phones, drinks, etc.

Dog Bed by Paw.com

When I saw this dog bed by Paw.com, I knew it would be perfect for the camper.  It serves double duty as a rug.  How cool is that.  Here are the benefits of them:  (taken directly from their site)

  • Memory foam dog bed that doubles as an attractive rug
  • GUARANTEED not to flatten for 10 years
  • Premium, pressure-relieving memory foam base
  • Waterproof memory foam liner
  • Ultra-soft and plush faux fur cover (removable and washable) with non-slip bottom

Ivy’s dog bed not only looks great in the camper, but with it being a washable cover, it’s just perfect.  This particular bed came as a set… her bed plus a matching waterproof blanket.  ????  You know how much she loves her blanket.  Oh….  I got you guys a special code if you want to take a look around their website.

Have I said how much I cannot wait to get this camper out to the woods and actually USE it?  ????

So what do you think about the living area in the camper?
